How Much Do You Save Cloth Diapering?

The average family will save at least $1,200, if not more, choosing to cloth diaper. This graph takes the following into consideration. The child, regardless of diaper style will be in diapers for 2.5 years (the national average). If disposables are used, 10-12 diapers per day will be used the first 6 months, 8-10 diapers per day for the next 6 months, 8 diapers for the following 12 months and 3 diapers per day for the next 6 months. We used $.30 per diaper as the average cost of a single use diaper. Disposable diapers cost between $.18-.50 each depending on brand and size. If cloth diapers are used, this graph shows the cost of 24 reusable diapers at $30 each purchased and washed every 2-3 days using an HE washing machine. The cost of the diapers and water is calculated for the total cost this option will incur.
Top 3 Reasons Families Choose Cloth Diapers Vs. Disposables
1Cost
Cloth diapers save money. Even if you choose a higher quality cloth diaper you are going to save money if you change your child's diaper regularly.
2Health
Cloth diapers don't contain the chemicals of most disposable diapers. This means they are less likely to cause irritation or other health concerns to the skin and lungs.
3Environment
Cloth diapers can be used over and over, they should even last through multiple children. This significantly reduces the environmental impact of a child's diapering years.

Disposables
- You have to keep buying them until baby is potty trained
- Contains ingredients that might irritate sensitive skin and lungs
- The smell terrible and sit in your trash until trash day

Cloth
